The Westin St. Francis Hotel is in Union Square San Francisco. I had the pleasure of shooting a wedding there in August. I took about 1000 wedding photos that day. Presented here are my favorite images from the event.
I call this a ‘detail shot’. Others have referred to them as ‘shimmer shots’ or ‘sizzle shots’. I also capture close ups of anything that is personalized and/or items that are chosen by the Bride [flowers, etc].
This is called the ‘first glance’ or ‘first look’. It’s when the bride and groom see one another before the wedding ceremony so that they can take pictures. It alleviates stress by being able to bang out a bunch of shots prior to the festivities. It also enables the couple to mingle during their cocktail hour, rather than spending that time taking photos.
I took the lovely couple out to Union Square for some Wedding Photos. The Westin St. Francis is in Union Square so there is/was no travel time wasted to get to that destination.
The Wedding Ceremony took place in the Borgia Room at the Westin. This is a small room with a fireplace and it is VERY dark in there. I used little to no flash for these pictures. I could have used flash if I wanted to [as I’m not restricted like if it were a church]. However flash is very distracting and also doesn’t look as natural. So I decided to use ambient light for most of the shots during the ceremony. The shot of the bride walking down the aisle is with no flash.
This is what the Victor’s Ballroom on the 32nd floor of the Westin looks like.
I shot a wedding at the Westin last Christmas that I have not uploaded yet. Perhaps now that I am excited about this venue again, I will go back into my archives and check them out. Until then, enjoy and I look forward to seeing you at an event!
